from the liner notes:
«…the ensuing work of rehearsal for the recording was a journey into the unknown, into a fascinating but often quite scary no man’s land, led by the sounds themselves, and with a sense of being blindfolded, feeling the way.
Most of the pieces on this album are extremely well known and frequently performed, with easily-grasped, short forms, and simple, poignant melodies: the standards of their time. Like our musical forefathers, we played around with the material, developing our own versions that – like Taracea itself – are a mixture of influences from quite different musical spheres: early music, jazz, spanish folk music, and so on.
Akoé was created in a superbly remote spot in Extremadura, where birdsong and the wind were our constant companions. To be able to share time and music together in such surroundings was a marvellous experience, and we hope that in listening to this CD some of that will resonate.»
